Breast Cancer Awareness

By Dr. Michele C. Reed,
NCBW Long Island Health Committee Chair

Welcome to October which is Breast Cancer Awareness month!

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the second leading cause of death in women. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

There has been a decrease in death rates from breath cancer since 1990 due early detection and screening, increased awareness and improved treatment.

As advocates, let us join with ABC in taking this Breast Cancer pledge. Please share it with your family, friends and colleagues!

Each month we will be discussing a health topic and an advocacy component. Knowledge is power and health is wealth!
