NY Women's Equality Coalition Women's Equality Update

Thank you for supporting the New York Women’s Equality Coalition’s campaign to pass the Women’s Equality Act. The Legislature has recessed for the summer, yet the Coalition’s work is not done.

The Assembly passed the 10-point Women’s Equality Act omnibus bill, while the Senate acted to pass only nine of the 10 individual bills making up the Women’s Equality Agenda. The Senate did not act upon the reproductive health provision. The failed Senate Majority Coalition leadership resulted in a move familiar in history—the segregation of women’s health from the other aspects of their lives.

The Senate needs to pass the reproductive health bill, or the omnibus bill to ensure that women in New York have the full protections the Women’s Equality Act recognized are lacking. Further, it is important that the Assembly return to Albany soon to pass the nine individual women’s equality bills the Senate approved in order to get them signed into law and advance women’s equality immediately.
