This one -day conference was designed to respond to the challenges facing the Twenty First Century woman. Experts provided attendees with the skills and information needed to achieve their professional and personal objectives. Our experts included speakers from MasterCard Worldwide, Prudential, NYC Health & Hospital Corp, Citbank and Small Business Administration, First Things First Foundation and Diana McCray’s Dancing to Wellness.

Biennial Black & White Candlelight Ball
Garden City Hotel

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Long Island Chapter Incorporated hosting its biennial gala, the “Black and White Candlelight Ball” on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the magnificent Garden City Hotel. For more than two decades the Black and White Candlelight Ball has served as the organization’s signature event which recognizes outstanding African Americans and has raised more than $150,000 in college scholarship dollars for women of African descent.
Distinguished Trailblazer honorees recognized at this year’s event for their outstanding leadership and pioneering efforts include: Corporate Trailblazer, Carla Harris, Managing Director, Morgan Stanley; Finance Trailblazer, Monique Townes, Senior Vice President, Citibank- North America: Arts Trailblazer, Tamara Tunie, Actor/Producer/Director,  Star of Law & Order SVU; and Community/Civil Rights/Aviators Trailblazers, The Tuskegee Airmen.
The evening’s festivities were outstandingly emceed by DeMarco Morgan, Anchor & Reporter for WNBC 4 New York. Event Sponsors included- Platinum Sponsor: Citibank NA, Bronze Sponsor: Verizon Foundation, Advocate Sponsors: Prudential Insurance & State Farm Companies, and Patron Sponsor Carla Harris.

Kwanzaa
Westbury Memorial Public Library

Our Annual Long Island Kwanzaa Celebration is a time to collectively reaffirm a spirit of faith, family and culture in keeping with the Seven Principals of Kwanzaa  .Our 2009 Kwanzaa Celebration Chaired by Velma Rhodes Ward  featured special performances by  Bethel AME Church’s Liturgical Dance Ministry and a Libation Ceremony led by Delores Smalls and Shirley Darkeh featuring  our NCBW 100 LI  Past Presidents of the organization. Kwanzaa celebration concluded with our traditional African Fashion walk.  Members and guests continued our annual tradition of donating toys to undeserved children.

The event was held in partnership with 100 Black Men of Long Island and co-sponsored by Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Haraya Black Student Organization-NCC, and Nassau County Community College

US Presidential Issues Forum

NCBW, LI in partnership with more than twenty sponsors presented the U.S. Presidential Issues Forum. The event included a nonpartisan voter education session Student Speaks at two local high schools, a Meet the Candidates night, and a Issues Forum, and Closing Plenary. The featured speaker was Donna Brazile, CNN political commentator and author, was presented with the Vanguard Speaker award.
